Attending beauty school is the first step to becoming a qualified nail technician, but it'll only be a success if you work hard to get the most out of it. Aside from paying attention in class, here are three things you can do to graduate from your nail course with as much knowledge under your belt as possible.
Communicate With Everyone
One of the most important things to do on any beauty course is communicate often with your course leader, your classmates, and those who volunteer as manicure practice models. There are many reasons why communication is important. First of all, it's one of the best ways to learn. Asking your instructor questions or exchanging techniques with your peers will enhance your understanding of nail health and design considerably in a way that simply listening, reading and practicing will not. On top of that, knowing how to communicate with clients is essential if you want to be a successful technician once your course is over, so talking with models during your course is good practice.
Practice Outside the Classroom
A good in-person nail technician course will give you plenty of opportunities to practice in the classroom, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't do your own practice at home too. The best way to practice is to do your friends' and family's nails; this will give you a real world understanding of how to meet a clients' desires alongside helping you improve your technique. However, if you've run out of willing volunteers or you want to practice when no one's around, you can also invest in a practice hand. Practice hands are models of human hands that you can fit disposable nails to, giving you an opportunity to try out new techniques and designs whenever you want.
Don't Stop at One Course
While there are many comprehensive nail technician courses out there, it's unlikely than any single course will teach you everything there is to know about nails. So, when you've finished your first nail course and qualified as a technician, don't hesitate to book yourself onto more. Nowadays, many beauty schools conduct day or weekend-long mini-courses that teach you specialised techniques, such as how to use a specific type of polish or execute a popular type of design. You may also wish to enhance your business and get more customers by taking other beauty courses related to nail design, such as hand skincare and massage.
